In this paper, the authors investigate the Riemann-Liouville fractional calculus of quadratic fractal interpolation function with variable scaling factors. The study is developed on a predefined initial condition in an arbitrary closed interval of the real line. Additionally, the authors provides the relation between the order of fractional derivative and the box dimension. Finally, I appreciate the investigation concerning the fractional calculus and the quadratic fractal interpolation function. This approach agrees with the modern trends in fractional calculus. The questions posed are easily understood. The initial conditions are well posed and well controlled. Furthermore, the interpretation of the authors discuss the relevance of all the results in an unbiased manner. The conclusions drawn from the study are relevant for both the fractional calculus and fractal geometry. Numerical simulations, which makes the paper well readable, bear out all the analytic results. In addition to the discussion and conclusions, which are well written, title and abstract accurately describe the aforementioned results. Summarizing, the paper presents an innovative point of view on a subject that attracts considerable attention, thus making it of independent interest. I would like to point out some minor essential revisions, reported below. 1) Section 1.1: I think it is better to add a short note on the generalization of the fractional calculus to the complex plane and functional spaces. In this regards, I suggest the following reference: 1.1) [\textit{E. Guariglia}, Adv. Difference Equ. 2019, Paper No. 261, 15 p. (2019; Zbl 1459.26011)]. 1.2) [\textit{M. A. Ragusa}, J. Glob. Optim. 40, No. 1--3, 361--368 (2008; Zbl 1143.42020)]. 1.3) [\textit{L. Abadias} et al., J. Math. Anal. Appl. 449, No. 1, 734--755 (2017; Zbl 1355.26004)]. 2) The formula that precedes (3.3) does not make sense. 3) The preliminaries should be made shorter. In particular, Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative and box dimension are well known concepts. 4) pg. 360: after example, the rest of Section 3 is not readable.
