The Hanna Neumann conjecture for Demushkin groups (Q2419259)

The 2-dimensional pro-\(p\) Poincaré duality groups, also called Demushkin groups, have been intensively studied from an arithmetic perspective. Among the modern group theoretic investigation of these groups, we just mention the recent work of the second author and \textit{P. Zalesskii} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 373, No. 3, 1501--1527 (2020; Zbl 1480.20077)] from which the present work borrows ideas. \par The method of proof follows (substantially clarifying and simplifying) the first author's pro-\(p\) variant of Friedman's original proof of the Hanna Neumann conjecture [Duke Math. J. 166, No. 10, 1955--1987 (2017; Zbl 1375.20035)]. Apart from the arguments of the second author and Zalesskii [loc. cit.], a careful study of modules over Demushkin groups is required.
