The authors consider unbounded supersolutions of the porous medium equation. The supersolutions are of two totally different types, depending on whether the pressure (i.e. $u^{m-1}$) is locally integrable or not. If it is integrable, we have to do with Barenblatt solutions type, if it is not integrable, we are working with the so-called friendly giants. In this paper, this classification and its consequences are deeply discussed.
