Let \(\mathbb{T}\) be the circle group of \(\mathbb{T}\). For a subset \(\Lambda\) of \(\mathbb{Z}\) and a trigonometric polynomial \(f\), \(f\) is called \(\Lambda\)-polynomial if \(\operatorname{supp}\widehat{f}\subset\Lambda\). \(\Lambda(\subset\mathbb{Z})\) is said to be a Sidon set if and only if there is a constant \(S_\Lambda>0\) such that \[ \sum_{n\in\Lambda}|\widehat{f}(n)|\leq S_\Lambda\|f\|_{L^\infty(\mathbb{T})} \] for every \(\Lambda\)-polynomial \(f\). \textit{R. E. A. C. Paley} [Ann. Math. (2) 34, 615--616 (1933; Zbl 0007.24401; JFM 59.0302.03)] proved that \(\chi_\Lambda\) is a multiplier from \(H^1(\mathbb{T})\) to \(L^2(\mathbb{T})\) when \(\Lambda=\{\lambda_n\}_n\) is a lacunary sequence which is a typical example of Sidon set, where \(\chi_\Lambda\) is a characteristic function on \(\Lambda\). By \textit{W. Rudin} [J. Math. Mech. 9, 203--227 (1960; Zbl 0091.05802)] and \textit{G. Pisier} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. A 286, 671--674 (1978; Zbl 0374.43003)] it was shown that \(\Lambda\subset\mathbb{Z}\) is a Sidon set if and only if \(\chi_\Lambda\) is a multiplier from \(L\log^{\frac{1}{2}}L(\mathbb{T})\) to \(L^2(\mathbb{T})\). In the paper under review, the author investigates variants with respect to these results. The main result is as follows: The class of all multipliers from \(H^1(\mathbb{T})\) to \(L^2(\mathbb{T})\) is properly contained in all the multipliers from \(L\log^{\frac{1}{2}}L(\mathbb{T})\) to \(L^2(\mathbb{T})\). The author also obtains some results related to Sidon set on an infinite abelian group.
