The authors deal with a class of bistable reaction-diffusion equations posed in the plane. One introduces a partition of the plane into infinitely many sectors and considers Dirichlet problems in these sectors. Via a priori estimates on nontrivial solutions to these sub-systems, one obtains the existence and attractivity of a heterogeneous steady state of the Dirichlet problem in each of the sectors. Also, it turns that a maximum positive steady state exists. The authors also describe the asymptotic behaviour of positive steady states for large times.
