Functional equations for exponential polynomials (Q2420600)

Let $H$ be a commutative discrete hypergroup and let $V$ be a finite-dimensional linear subspace of $S(H)$, the set of complex valued mappings defined on $H$. Assuming that for $f\in C(H)$ all its iterated modified differences belong to $V$, the authors prove that $f$ is a generalized polynomial of a certain degree. In proofs methods of spectral analysis and spectral synthesis are applied. The obtained results are applied to the study of a Levi-Civita functional equation. More precisely, recent results of \textit{J. M. Almira} and \textit{E. V. Shulman} [Aequationes Math. 91, No. 5, 921--931 (2017; Zbl 1382.43006)] are extended to a more general setting.
