This paper focuses on entropy conservative schemes applied for the receding flow problem. The entropy schemes allow the conservation of an additional quantity at the semi-discrete level. The connection between the overheating and a spurious entropy production ab initio is discussed. Although the Liou's semi-discrete analysis [\textit{M.-S. Liou}, ``The root cause of the overheating problem'', in: Proceedings of the 23rd AIAA computational fluid dynamics conference, 2017. Reston, VA: American Institute of Aeronautocs and Astronautics (AIAA). Paper No. AIAA 2017-4107, 10 p. (2017; \url{doi:10.2514/6.2017-4107})] suggested that the entropy conservation flux of Roe would prevent the overheating, still the fully discrete analysis showed the entropy production due to time integration. This is why this paper focus on a fully discrete entropy conservative scheme for this type of problem. An entropy conservation time-integration scheme is developed to show that enforcing conservation of entropy at the fully discrete level does not necessarily prevent the temperature spike. A better specific entropy profile is obtained, but the oscillatory nature of the numerical solution does not make it a practical option. All the presented results are supported by a number of numerical experiments.
