Let \(s_1,\ldots,s_d\geq 1\) be real numbers with \(s_d\geq 2\). In this paper, the author gives formulas for the multiple zeta function \(\zeta(s_1,\ldots,s_d):=\sum_{0<n_1<\ldots<n_d}n_1^{-s_1}\ldots n_d^{-s_d}\) in terms of iterated integrals on the ideles \(\mathbb{A}^\times\) of \(\mathbb Q\). More precisely, two integral representations for \(\zeta(s_1,\ldots,s_d)\) are given: one as an iterated integral over the finite ideles \(\mathbb{A}^\times_f\), and one as an iterated integral over the idele class group \(\mathbb A^\times/\mathbb Q^\times\). The case \(d=1\) goes back to Tate's thesis, and the formulas given in the present paper may be seen as direct generalizations thereof. Furthermore, the author proves shuffle, respectively, stuffle relations for general iterated integrals over the idele class group, respectively over the finite ideles, thereby giving a new interpretation of the double shuffle relations for multiple zeta values.
