The celebrated Mandelbrot set is the connectedness locus of the family of the quadratic polynomial \(f_c(z)=z^2+c\), that is \[ M=\{c \ |\ f^n(0) \text{ is bounded}\}. \] It has been well investigated by many great mathematicians even though the main question is still open. The paper first extends the complex numbers to multicomplex numbers by adding imaginary units. Then a multicomplex Mandelbrot set is introduced in the multicomplex space. This set has more than three real dimensions and its visualization requires three-dimensional slices. One of the main result of the paper is that the principal three-dimensional slices are optimal.
