The article gives a closed and long expression for the determinant of the Laplace-Beltrami operator associated to the Cayley projective plane \(P^2(\mathbb O)\) endowed with the standard Fubini-Study metric \(g_{FS}\). The author had recently worked the case of complex projective spaces in [\textit{R. Awonusika}, J. Number Theory 190, 131--155 (2018; Zbl 1404.33005)]. It is also computed in an alternative way (and fixing some mistakes) to [\textit{R. Cahn} and \textit{J. Wolf}; Comment. Math. Helvetici 51, 1--21 (1976; Zbl 0327.43013)], the heat invariants of \((P^2(\mathbb O),g_{FS})\), by using spherical functions. A word of caution. The author uses a strange notational convention which might be confusing. He adds to functions and parameters associated to an \(N\)-dimensional Riemannian manifold the letter \(N\) as a subscript or superscript. For the Cayley projective plane, he decides to add the number \(2\) in place of the dimension \(16\), obtaining parameters \(a_k^2\) and \(u_k^2\) that seems elevated to the square.
