The authors study a fractional generalization of the Burgers-Fisher and Burgers-Huxley models, given by a parabolic partial differential equation with nonlinear reaction, fractional diffusion and advection terms of Riesz type. Using fractional centered differences, a variable-step Bhattacharya-type finite difference scheme is proposed to obtain approximate solutions. This method is an explicit technique which, in the presence of appropriate parameter restrictions, preserves positivity, boundedness and monotonicity of the approximations. Consistency, stability and convergence of the proposed scheme are established. Numerical experiments are carried out to illustrate the findings.
