The author presents second order difference approximations for Volterra equations with completely monotonic kernels. The author introduces a numerical scheme that preserves sharp decay estimates at the numerical level, uniformly on the mesh size parameters. The author's analysis for the second order time discretization method for the considered problem is based on [\textit{D.~Xu}, Sci. China, Math. 56, No. 2, 395-424 (2013; Zbl 1266.65212)]. The author mentions that his approach is very efficient in obtaining sharp decay convergence estimates for the numerical solutions, provided the kernel functions satisfy some reasonable assumptions. Numerical results are presented.
