    The article is devoted to an example of a subshock formation with slower shock velocity than the maximum characteristic velocity in a spatially one-dimensional nonlinear hyperbolic dissipative system. The system consists of two identical Euler-type equations for velocities of a media interacting with another media. The transport term is nonlinear, the friction is proportional to the velocity difference. The system satisfies conditions sufficient for existence of a global solution, provided that the initial data are small enough. For the specially chosen polynomial nonlinear term, the existence of a subshock is proved and thus a counter-example to a subshock conjecture (shock velocity is always higher than the maximum characteristic velocity) is constructed.
