Let \(X\) be a smooth, irreducible complex projective variety. One can consider the multigraded system of base ideals associated to linear combinations of given divisors on \(X\), and its asymptotic behaviour. Namely, the nef cone and the pseudoeffective cone of the system are considered. The nef cone of a projective variety is known to be rather well-behaved, more precisely, it is locally given by a polynomial inequality almost everywhere [\textit{F. Campana} and \textit{T. Peternell}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 407, 160--166 (1990; Zbl 0728.14004)]. Then it is natural to ask how the asymptotic nef cone behaves. The author defines a multigraded system of ideals in the abstract setting, and studies its asymptotic invariants, especially the order of vanishing, the log canonical threshold, and the Samuel multiplicity. In the paper, a number of badly-behaved cones and invariants in the abstract setting are presented. He shows that any closed convex cone can be realized as the nef cone of a graded system of ideals. He also constructs examples of graded systems whose asymptotic invariants are non-\(C^{\infty}\) functions on a dense open subset of (the big cone \ the nef cone). Finally he exhibits a graded system whose nef cone is given by linear functions, but the order of vanishing is nowhere differentiable on an open set.
