From the point of view of probabilistic number theory shifted primes behave essentially like the set of all positive integers. Instances of this phenomenon were conjectured long ago, but proofs started to appear only recently. The main result of the present paper is that an additive function which is monotonic on the set \(\{p+1\}\) must be of the form \(A \log \) on odd integers and of the form \( A \log +\) constant on powers of 2. This extends a classical result of Erdős that a monotonic additive function must be a logarithm
