The study of the dynamics of automorphisms of complex manifolds is a rich subject. A landmark result in the field was proved by \textit{C. T. McMullen} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 545, 201--233 (2002; Zbl 1054.37026)]. There he constructed a non-projective \(K3\) surface with an automorphism that possesses a Siegel disk, that is a domain where the automorphism is conjugate to an irrational rotation of a disk. The author of this paper studies the structure of the (birational) automorphism group of non-projective hyperkähler manifolds, which are the higher-dimensional analogues of \(K3\) surfaces. He proves that the birational automorphism group of such a manifold is a finitely generated almost abelian group, and gives some estimates for its rank. As an application, he shows that the (biregular) automorphism group of McMullen's example is just \(\mathbb{Z}\). Moreover he shows that there are only countably many \(K3\) surfaces with Picard number zero and automorphism group isomorphic to \(\mathbb{Z}\), while in all the remaining cases the only automorphism is the identity.
