The Airy process is a real-valued stationary process with continuous paths [cf. \textit{M. Prähofer} and \textit{H. Spohn}, J. Stat. Phys. 108, 1076--1106 (2002; Zbl 1025.82010)]. The author's main result states that if the Airy process is conditioned to be at some given point at some given time, then it will then behave, on a local scale, as a Brownian motion. Next, it is shown that the so-called discrete polynuclear growth model (PNG) also behaves as a Brownian motion in a certain scaling limit. For the definition of the former model see \textit{K. Johansson} [Commun. Math. Phys. 242, No. 1--2, 277--329 (2003; Zbl 1031.60084)].
