The paper concerns the existence of \(2\pi\)-periodic solutions for the Hamiltonian system \[ \dot x=J\nabla H(t,x) \] where \(H\) is \(2\pi\)-periodic in \(t\) and super-quadratic at infinite in \(x\in\mathbb{R}^{2n}\). The approach is variational and makes use of the Morse homology theory, as developed in [\textit{A. Abbondandolo} and \textit{P. Mayer}, Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 54, 689--760 (2001; Zbl 1023.58003 )]. The main existence result is obtained under the following assumptions: at infinity, \(D^2H\) tends to plus infinity but \(D^3H\) does not grow too much.
