The author studies the parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig \(R\)-polynomials for the tight quotients of the symmetric groups. These quotients were first studied by Stembridge, who classified them for the finite Coxeter groups; for the particular case of the symmetric group \(S_n\), such tight quotients are those obtained by deleting either a single node (the maximal quotients) or two adjacent nodes in the Dynkin diagram for \(S_n\). The parabolic \(R\)-polynomials for the maximal quotients were considered in a previous paper of the author, so the current work focusses on computation of the parabolic \(R\)-polynomials of the tight quotients in the other case. An explicit combinatorial product formula is obtained for these polynomials, and two formulations are presented, one in terms of permutations and one in the geometric language of Motzkin paths. As an application of the results, the author derives explicit combinatorial formulas for certain sums and alternating sums of ordinary Kazhdan-Lusztig \(R\)-polynomials.
