The classic Poisson summation formula for the integer lattice \(\mathbb{Z}^d\) has many generalisations, in particular to arbitrary lattices in \(\mathbb{R}^d\) and to linear functionals such as distributions or measures. Recent applications include mathematical quasicrystals via diffraction theory (compare [\textit{J. C. Lagarias}, in: Directions in mathematical quasicrystals. Providence, RI: AMS, American Mathematical Society. CRM Monogr. Ser. 13, 61--93 (2000; Zbl 1161.52312)]) or radially symmetric structures (see [\textit{M. Baake}, \textit{D. Frettlöh} and \textit{U. Grimm}, J. Geom. Phys. 57, No. 5, 1331--1343 (2007; Zbl 1185.37029)]). In all these cases, the parameter \(d\) is an integer. Motivated by a problem in condensed matter physics (namely the dimensional continuation of certain electrostatic lattice sums), the author develops a reformulation of the PSF for radially symmetric even Schwartz functions where \(d \leq 1\) is a continuous parameter (Thm. 1). The proof is based on various relations to and among lattice theta series, including Jacobi's formula that relates the theta functions of a lattice and its dual. While the reciprocity formula for the classic theta functions is often derived from the PSF, there are independent proofs as well (which is the entry point of this approach). Various summation formula (see Thm. 2) are then derived through a family of generalised theta series, which also includes certain modular forms. Enroute, Lemma 2 establishes a connection between Gaussian functions and even Schwartz functions. Possible applications and extensions, as well as the relation to known results, is carefully documented. For an interesting extension of the `quasicrystal PSF' from the reviewer's paper [Zbl 1161.52312], the reader is also referred to \textit{C. Richard} [J. Math. Phys. 44, No. 10, 4436--4449 (2003; Zbl 1062.52022)].
