In this paper, the authors give a caracterization of exponentially stable strictly dissipative semigroups. Recall that a semigroup \(T(t)\) on a Hilbert space is called exponentially stable if there exist real constants \(M \geq 1\) and \(\alpha > 0\) such that \(\| T(t)\| \leq Me^{-\alpha t}\) for every \(t \geq 0\). The authors prove that, if \([T(t)]\) is a strongly continuous contraction semigroup, then it is possible to choose \(M=1\) if and only if the generator \(A\) of \(T(t)\) is boundedly strict dissipative. The authors prove that the assumption of just a strict dissipative \(A\) is not enough to have \(M=1\).
