The authors consider the following problem for fractional order differential equation in a real Banach space \(E\): \[ D^{\alpha }x(t)=\mathcal{A}x(t)+f(t,x_{t}), \;0\leq t\leq T, \;0<\alpha <1, \] \[ x(t)=\phi (t)\in \mathcal{C}:=\mathcal{C}([-r,0],E), \] where \(D^{\alpha }\) is the \(\alpha \)th Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative, \(f\in \mathcal{C}([0,T],E)\), \(\mathcal{A}:D(\mathcal{A })\subset E\rightarrow E\) is a nondensely defined closed linear operator and \(\phi \in \mathcal{C}\). Considering that the operator \(\mathcal{A}\) satisfies the Hille-Yosida condition and using the Banach fixed-point theorem, the authors obtain the existence and uniqueness of integral solutions for the above problem. The Hille-Yosida condition is weaker than other assumptions used in some works to get existence and uniqueness results of the integral solution. An application is given.
