In [\textit{B. Wong}, Invent. Math. 41, 253--257 (1977; Zbl 0385.32016)], it was proved that the only strictly pseudoconvex domain with non-compact automorphism group is the ball. This result was generalized in [\textit{J.-P. Rosay}, Ann. Inst. Fourier 29, No.~4, 91--97 (1979; Zbl 0402.32001)] by showing that, for any bounded domain \(D\subset\mathbb C^k\) and any sequence \((f_n)\) of its automorphisms such that the orbit of a point of \(D\) under \((f_n)\) accumulates a smooth strictly pseudoconvex point of \(\partial D\), the domain \(D\) is biholomorphic to the unit ball. This theorem remains valid for a sequence of correspondences provided that their degrees remain bounded [\textit{N. Ourimi}, Publ. Mat., Barc. 47, No.~1, 31--43 (2003; Zbl 1044.32012)]. In the paper, the author proves the following generalization of the theorem mentioned above. Let \(D\subset\mathbb C^k\) be a bounded domain with a proper holomorphic self-map \(f\). If there is a point in \(D\) whose orbit under the iterates of \(f\) accumulates a smooth strictly pseudoconvex point of \(\partial D\), then \(D\) is biholomorphic to the unit ball and \(f\) is an automorphism.
