Let \(E\) be a real Banach space with uniformly Gâteaux differentiable norm and let \(K\) be a nonempty closed convex subset of \(E\). If \(T:K\rightarrow K\) is an asymptotically nonexpansive mapping, in order to approximate its fixed points, consider for any initial value \(x_0\in K\) and a fixed anchor \(u\in K\), the iterative scheme \(\{x_n\}\) defined by \[ x_{n+1}=\alpha_n u+\beta_n T^n x_n+(1-\alpha_n-\beta_n) x_n,\quad n\geq 0, \] where \(\{\alpha_n\}\) and \(\{\beta_n\}\) are sequences in \((0,1)\) satisfying appropriate conditions. The main result of the paper (Theorem 3.2) shows that \(\{x_n\}\) converges strongly to a fixed point of \(T\), provided that such a fixed point exists (and some other technical assumptions are satisfied).
