The paper addresses the topic considered in many recent works, namely, selection of special forms of the multi-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations with the dispersion and nonlinearity coefficient depending on the evolution variable, and including linear loss-gain term with the variable coefficient, which may be explicitly transformed into the standard integrable form of the 1D NLS equation. In the cases when this transformation is possible, various known solutions of the integrable NLS equation, such as single- and multiple-soliton, cnoidal-wave solutions, and solutions for the so-called rogue waves, are interpreted as solutions to the underlying multi-dimensional equations with the specially selected variable coefficient.
