The Reidemeister trace of a self-map was defined by Reidemeister himself, containing the information of the Lefschetz number and the Nielsen number. This paper deals with a kind of generalization: local Reidemeister trace in coincidence theory. Let \(f,g: X\to Y\) be two maps between manifolds, and let \(U\) be an open subset of \(M\). A local Reidemeister trace for \(f\) and \(g\) at \(U\) is an element in the free abelian group generated by ``double twisted conjugacy classes'' of \(\pi_1(N)\). Two elements \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) in \(\pi_1(N)\) are said to be double twisted conjugate if \(\alpha = f_\pi(\gamma^{-1})\beta g_\pi(\gamma)\) for some \(\gamma\in \pi_1(M)\). In this paper, the author illustrates the existence and uniqueness of the local Reidemeister trace subject to five axioms. Before this, axioms for the Lefschetz number were given by \textit{M. Arkowitz} and \textit{R. F. Brown} [Fixed Point Theory Appl. 2004, No. 1, 1--11 (2004; Zbl 1083.55001)]. A local fixed point theory can be found in the paper of \textit{E. Fadell} and \textit{S. Husseini} [Ill. J. Math. 25, 673--699 (1981; Zbl 0469.55004)].
