Let \(E_n\) be the \(n\)th Morava \(E\)-theory spectrum that is based on the Witt vectors for the finite field with \(p^n\) elements. Also, let \(G_n\) denote the \(n\)th extended Morava stabilizer group and let \(L_{K(n)}\) denote Bousfield localization with respect to the \(n\)th Morava \(K\)-theory. Given an arbitrary spectrum \(Z\), the author constructs a natural, strongly and conditionally convergent spectral sequence that has the form \[ H^s_c(G_{n+1}; \mathbb{A}^t(Z)) \Longrightarrow (L_{K(n)}L_{K(n+1)}(S^0))^{s+t}(Z), \] where the \(E_2\)-term is continuous cohomology of continuous cochains, with coefficients in the topological \(G_{n+1}\)-module \[ \mathbb{A}^t(Z) = (L_{K(n)}(E_{n+1}))^t(Z). \] Additionally, the author constructs a map of spectral sequences, from the \(K(n)\)-local \(E_n\)-Adams spectral sequence with abutment \((L_{K(n)}(S^0))^{s+t}(Z)\) to the above spectral sequence. On \(E_2\)-terms, this map of spectral sequences yields the expected map from the point of view of continuous cohomology. Let \(\zeta_n\) be the usual nontrivial element in \(\pi_{-1}(L_{K(n)}(S^0))\) that is given by the reduced norm map of \(G_n\). Then the author proves that \(\zeta_n\) has a nontrivial image under the map \[ \pi_\ast(L_{K(n)}(S^0)) \rightarrow \pi_\ast(L_{K(n)}L_{K(n+1)}(S^0)) \] that is the map of abutments induced by the above map of spectral sequences, when \(Z = S^0\). The work in this paper builds on the paper \textit{T. Torii} [Math. Z. 266, No.~4, 933--951 (2010; Zbl 1203.55004)] and has many examples of nontrivial work done in the kind of topological algebra that appears often in chromatic stable homotopy theory.
