Let \((S,+,\cdot)\) be an additively commutative semiring with absorbing zero \(0\). An ideal \(I\) of \(S\) is called a \(p\)-ideal if \(nx+a=(n+1)x\), \(a\in I\Rightarrow x\in I\) for all \(x\in S\) and \(n\in\mathbb{N}\). A prime (semiprime) ideal of \(S\) that is also a \(p\)-ideal is called a \(p\)-prime ideal (\(p\)-semiprime ideal). Using the \(p\)-ideal-hull \(\widehat I=\{x\in S\mid nx+a=(n+1)x\) for some \(n\in\mathbb{N}\), \(a\in I\}\) for any ideal \(I\) of \(S\), the authors prove several characterizations of \(p\)-prime and \(p\)-semiprime ideals which are similar to well known characterizations for arbitrary prime and semiprime ideals in semirings, e.g.: an ideal \(I\) is \(p\)-semiprime if and only if \(I\) is the intersection of all \(p\)-prime ideals containing it.
