Let \(1<p\neq 2<\infty\) and let \(\Gamma\), \(\Delta\) be discrete sets. Let \(V_0\) be an into isometry between the unit spheres of \(\ell^p(\Gamma)\) and \(\ell^p(\Delta)\). Suppose for each \(x \in \ell^p(\Gamma)\), \(\| x\| =1\), and \(\gamma \in \Gamma\), there exists a real number \(\eta_{\gamma}\) such that \(V_0(x)| \text{supp} (V_0(e_{\gamma}))=\eta_{\gamma}V_0(e_{\gamma})\). In this short note, the author shows that \(V_0\) then extends to a linear isometry between the spaces. Theorem 1 also gives a simpler proof of Theorem 3.1 from \textit{W. Jian} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc 132, 2899--2909 (2004; Zbl 1067.46004)]. The case \(p=2\) was done earlier by the author in [Sci. China, Ser. A 45, No. 4, 479--483 (2002; Zbl 1107.46302)].
