Let \(X\) be the random lifetime of a system which can adopt two states: up or down. The state of the system can be determined only by an inspection with random duration \(Z\). If the down-state is detected by an inspection, the system is repaired taking a random repair time \(Y\). If the system has been recognized to be in the up-state, it is assumed that it remains in the up-state for ever. The system is considered down at time \(t\), if the inspection is yet to be finished. The probability that the system is judged to be up at time \(t\) is called its pseudo-availability at time \(t\). A method for computing the pseudo-availability is developed and illustrated by some examples.
