Thirty years of G-stability (Q2433883)

This is a survey paper which describes the impact of a paper by \textit{G. Dahlquist} [Lect. Notes Math. 506, 60--72 (1976; Zbl 0352.65042)] on subsequent works of many authors, including the work of the author of the present article. In that paper, Dahlquist introduced the idea of nonlinear stability. This type of nonlinear stability has a counterpart for Runge-Kutta methods which was investigated by the present author and others. This article gives a brief history of nonlinear stability keeping Dahlquist's 1976 work in view. A survey of the corresponding theory for Runge-Kutta and general linear methods is presented. It also includes a discussion on some recent works in this direction.
