The notion of boundary triplets of an isometric operator \(V\) in a Pontryagin space is introduced. It consists of a space \(\mathcal N_1 \oplus \mathcal N_2\) and two boundary mappings \(\Gamma_1\) and \(\Gamma_2\) such that \((\Gamma_1, \Gamma_2)^\top: V^{-[*]} \to \mathcal N_1 \oplus \mathcal N_2 \) is surjective and which satisfy a Green identity. For a fixed boundary triple, each isometric (unitary) operator from \(\mathcal N_1\) to \(\mathcal N_2\) corresponds to an isometric (unitary) extension of \(V\). Further, the notion of \(\gamma\)-field and of the Weyl function is introduced and it is shown that it belongs to the generalized Schur class. With the help of the \(\gamma\)-field and the Weyl function, a resolvent formula for extensions is proved. Finally, a bijective correspondence between the set of all generalized resolvents of \(V\) and all operator functions of the generalized Schur class is shown. Many of the presented results here have a natural analogue in the corresponding theory of boundary triplets for symmetric operators in Pontryagin/Krein spaces. In this sense, the theory of boundary triplets of isometric operators in Pontryagin spaces presented here is in close connection to the theory of boundary triplets and Weyl functions for symmetric operators which was developed (among others) in the papers of V. M.\ Bruk, V. I.\ Gorbachuk, M. L.\ Gorbachuk, M.\ Malamud, A. N.\ Kochubei and M. I.\ Visik and, in the case of symmetric operators in Krein spaces, by V. A.\ Derkach.
