The authors mostly consider separable metrizable spaces. They are interested in describing the family of remainders of an arbitrary locally compact separable metric space. They succeed in doing this for the locally compact separable metrizable spaces having the \(n\)-complementation property for some \(n \geq 1\). Examples of such spaces are the euclidean spaces \(\mathbb R^n\) with finitely many points removed. They also prove the interesting result that in the family of remainders of all locally compact separable metrizable spaces there is a strictly increasing \(\omega_1\)-family. The paper ends with an open problem.
