Topical directions of informatics. In memory of V. M. Glushkov (Q2434415)

The aim of this book is to supplement previous books dedicated to the work of Viktor Glushkov by presenting ``new material describing the achievements of the Ukrainian cybernetics in recent years, in which Glushkov's ideas were successfully developed and implemented''. As a result, the book covers a wide range of developments in computer science and applications. The book targets a large audience and the bibliography gives further references to the specialists looking for details. Interestingly, the book does not focus on historical developments and introduces as well recent achievements. The chapters are independent of each other and offer relevant presentations of various topics: Theory of algorithms and supercomputers; Complex processes analysis; Economic processes analysis; Optimization; Medical imaging. As a more concrete example, Chapter 4.2 presents an application of evolutionary optimization algorithm (H-method) in the context of national debt modeling and optimization. This chapter starts with the description and mathematical formulation of the problem. Then it introduces the algorithmic tools that are used to analyze the problem and shows the results. This structure makes the reading relevant to a vast audience. The number of topics addressed is too large to be included in this review; the table of contents provides complete information.
