The authors study the operator equation \(B(\mu)x + R(\mu,x)= 0\), where \(p\) is a parameter in a normed space \(E\), \(B(\mu)\) is a closed linear operator with no inverse operator for \(\mu= 0\), the range of \(B(0)\) is not closed and \(\dim\ker B(0)\geq 1\). The nonlinear operator \(R\) is continuous. The main aim of the paper is the construction of solutions \(x(\mu)\) having maximal order of smallness when \(\mu\) tends to \(0\) in \(E\). The case of Fredholm operators is considered in Section 2 by using a regularization based on Schmidt's lemma. The more general case is studied in Section 3, where the authors obtain successive approximations if some estimate holds. This involves a regularization in the sense of ill-posed problems. Some applications to nonlinear integral equations and differential equations on the half-line are given.
