Denote by \(\Phi\) the set of all monotone increasing continuous functions \(\mu:[0,\infty)\to[0,\infty)\) with \(\mu(t)=0\) iff \(t=0\) and let \(\Psi\) denote the set of all lower semi-continuous functions \(\psi:[0,\infty)^2\to[0,\infty)\) with \(\psi(t_1,t_2)>0\) for \(t_1,t_2\in(0,\infty)\) and \(\psi(0,0)=0\). Let \((X,d)\) be a metric space, \(A_i\subset X,\,i=1,2,\dots,m\), nonempty and \( Y=\bigcup_{i=1}^mA_i\). By definition, \(\{A_i:1\leq i\leq m\}\) is called a cyclic representation of \(Y\) with respect to an operator \(T:Y\to Y\) if \(T(A_i)\subset A_{i+1}\), \(i=1,2,\dots,m\), where \(A_{m+1}=A_1\). An operator \(T:Y\to Y\) is called a Chatterjea-type cyclic weakly contraction if (i) \(\{A_i: 1\leq i\leq m\} \) is a cyclic representation of \(Y\) with respect to \(T\), and (ii) \(\mu(d(Tx,Ty)\leq \mu(\frac12[d(x,Ty)+d(Tx,y)])-\psi(d(x,Ty),d(Tx,y))\) for all \(x_i\in A_i\), \(y\in A_{i+1}\), \(i=1,2,\dots,m\), where \(\mu\in \Phi\) and \(\psi\in\Psi\). The main result of the paper is Theorem 2.1, asserting that any Chatterjea-type cyclic weakly contraction \(T\), with \(A_i\) closed, on a complete metric space \((X,d)\) has a fixed point \(z\in \bigcap_{i=1}^mA_i\). The result holds in the particular case when condition (ii) is replaced by: (ii') there exists \(k\in(0,\frac12)\) such that \(d(Tx,Ty)\leq k[d(x,Ty)+d(Tx,y)]\) for all \(\,x\in A_i\), \(y\in A_{i+1}\), \(i=1,2,\dots,m\) (Corollary 2.1).
