Let \((R,\mathfrak{m},k)\) be a commutative Noetherian local ring and \(ld_R(k)\) the linear defect of \(k\). In the case when \(R\) is a standard graded \(k\)-algebra it is known that \(\mathrm{ld}_R(k)<\infty\) implies \(\mathrm{ld}_R(k)=0\). The author asks whether this property holds also for local rings \((R,\mathfrak{m},k)\). She gets a positive answer for the cases when \(\mathfrak{m}^3=0\), or \(R\) is a complete intersection and \(R^g\) is Cohen--Macaulay, or when \(R\) is Golod and \(R^g\) is Cohen--Macaulay. Some refinements of this question are also studied.
