Maximal pairwise complementary families of quasi-uniformities (Q2437653)

In 1995 J. Steprans and S. Watson considered the problem of asking for the possible cardinalities of maximal families of mutually complementary families of partial orders. The present paper delivers an example which can be understood as a statement about the possible cardinalities of maximal mutually complementary families of \(T_0\)-quasi-uniformities. In this setting quasi-uniformities can indeed be interpreted as filtered generalizations of preorders. The main example of this work states that for each natural number \(n\) greater than one on some infinite set there exists a maximal family of \(n\) \(T_0\)-quasi-uniformities that are mutually complementary and each of which is generated by a partial order.
