This paper is in the overlap of two very interesting general problems. First, the study of necessary and sufficient conditions for an ideal in a local ring to be in the linkage class of a complete intersection (i.e. \textit{licci}). Second, the study of squarefree monomials and their properties. The fundamental question that is addressed in this paper is the following: Let \(S = K[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) be a polynomial ring over a field \(K\). Set \(\mathfrak m = (x_1,\dots,x_n)\). Suppose that \(I \subseteq S\) is a squarefree monomial ideal. When is \(I_{\mathfrak m}\) licci in \(R = S_{\mathfrak m}\)? The authors give two partial answers. First, they consider the case of edge ideals of graphs and classify the licci ideals in this class. Second, they consider the case of squarefree monomial ideals with small deviation, i.e. those for which the cardinality of a minimal generating set of \(I\) is at most \(\text{height } I + 2\). They first show that any Cohen-Macaulay almost complete intersection squarefree monomial ideal (i.e. one for which the deviation is one) is always licci. They then give a technical theorem that allows them to completely classify licci squarefree monomial ideals of deviation 2.
