Consider a tube domain in \(\mathbb C^n\), that is a domain of the form \(T_\Omega = \{z = x + i y \;,\;x \in \mathbb R^n\;,\;y \in \Omega \}\) for some domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb R^n\). Assume also that the convex hull of \(\Omega\) contains no straight line. The main result of this paper consists in an algebraic criterion for completeness of a complex vector field \(X\) on \(T_\Omega\) with polynomial components of degree less or equal than \(2\). This criterion allows the explicit classification of all complete polynomial vector fields of degree \(2\) by purely algebraic computations, as the author illustrates by several examples. The main theorem has also various applications to the holomorphic equivalence problem for tube domains. For instance, the author shows that if \(T_{\Omega_1}\), \(T_{\Omega_2}\) are tube domains, with convex hulls of \(\Omega_1\), \(\Omega_2\) containing no straight line and all automorphisms given by affine transformations of \(\mathbb C^n\), then they are biholomorphically equivalent if and only if they are affinely equivalent.
