Let \(Z = \{P_1,\ldots,P_s\} \subset {\mathbb P}^1\times {\mathbb P}^1\) be a set of points, then \(I(Z)=\bigcap_{i=1}^sI(P_i).\) If \(m\) is a positive integer we can define the associated fat point scheme, \(mZ,\) defined by the ideal \(I(mZ)=\bigcap_{i=1}^sI(P_i)^{m}.\) Note that \(I(mZ)\) is a bi-homogeneous ideal, so there is no single, canonical way to extend the initial degree notion to this setting. The authors propose two variants of that notion: \(\alpha^+(I)\) and \(\alpha^*(I)\) (see Definition 1.2) and they study the effect of the points fattening on \(\alpha^+(I)\) and \(\alpha^*(I)\) (Theorem 2.2, Theorem 2.7 and Theorem 3.1). In Theorem 2.5 they prove a Chudnovsky-type result, on \(\alpha^*(I).\)
