The paper under review is related with the asymptotics analysis of large eigenvalues of infinite Jacobi matrices with discrete spectrum. A large class of Jacobi matrices is considered whose elements of the main diagonal \((d_k)_{k\geq 1}\), \(d_k\in \mathbb{R}\), tend to infinity and the entries \((b_k)_{k\geq 1}\), \(b_k\in \mathbb{C}\), off the diagonal satisfy \[ \lim_{k\rightarrow \infty}\frac{|b_{k-1}|+|b_k|}{d_k}=0.\] Specifically, the assumptions on the elements \(d_k\) and \(b_k\) when \(k\rightarrow \infty\) are \(d_k=Ck^{\alpha}+O(k^{\beta})\), \(|b_k|=O(k^{\beta})\) for some \(C>0\), \(0\leq \beta<\alpha<1+\beta\). In particular, the hypothesis that the sequence of diagonal entries \((d_k)_{k\geq 1}\) is increasing is not required. The paper generalizes previous results on the approximation of the \(n\)-th eigenvalue \(\lambda_n(J)\) of the Jacobi matrix \(J\) when \(n\rightarrow \infty\), in terms of eigenvalues of finite submatrices of \(J\), using an alternative approach based on decay properties of resolvent kernels and applying the Helffer-Sjöstrand formula [\textit{B. Helffer} and \textit{J. Sjöstrand}, Lect. Notes Phys. 345, 118--197 (1989; Zbl 0699.35189)].
