Let \(M^{!}_p\) (resp. \(H^{!}_p , \bar{M}^{!}_p\)) denote the space of holomorphic (resp. \(p\)-harmonic, antiholomorphic) modular forms of weight \(p\) with at most exponential growth at the cusps. Then one has the following exact sequence: \[ 0 \to M^{!}_p \to H^{!}_p \overset{\xi_p} \rightarrow \bar{M}^{!}_{2-p} \] with \(\xi_p := 2i(\operatorname{Im}z)^p \partial_{\bar{z}}\). Given an element \(F \in \bar M^{!}_{2-p}\), its \(p\)-harmonic lift is an element \(H \in H^{!}_p\) such that \(\xi_p H = F\). The main result (Theorem 1.1) of the paper under review states that for any complex number \(p\), and any \(F \in \bar M^{!}_{2-p}\) modular with respect to \(\mathrm{SL}_2 (\mathbb Z)\) and a multiplier system on \(\mathrm{SL}_2 (\mathbb Z)\) suitable for the weight \(p\), there exists a \(p\)-harmonic lift on \(\mathrm{SL}_2 (\mathbb Z)\) with the same multiplier system. As the author emphasizes, Theorem 1.1 is only an existence result and does not give the lift explicitly. The author uses a modification (suitable for working with arbitrary complex weights) of an approach via Poincaré series (used by \textit{K. Bringmann} and \textit{K. Ono} [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 104, No. 10, 3725--3731 (2006; Zbl 1191.11013)]) and applies results from perturbation theory of modular forms [the author, Families of automorphic forms. Monographs in Mathematics. 88. Basel: Birkhäuser (1994; Zbl 0821.11029)].
