    The authors deal with an abstract version of the evolution system \[ u_{tt}-\omega\Delta u_{tt} +\Delta(\Delta u+\theta)=0,\quad\theta_t-\Delta \theta - \Delta u_{t}=0\quad \text{in}\quad \Omega\times (0,\infty) \] with boundary conditions \[ u(t)=\Delta u(t) =0,\quad \theta (t)=0\quad \text{on}\quad \partial\Omega\times (0,\infty), \] expressing the dynamics of linear thermoelastic plates. Its abstract generalization has the form of the hyperbolic-parabolic system \[ \ddot u+\omega A\ddot u +A^2 u-A^\sigma \theta=0,\quad\dot\theta+A\theta +A^\sigma\dot u=0,\quad \sigma\geq 0. \] The exponential and polynomial properties of the related solution semigroup are investigated in dependence of the values of \(\sigma\).
