Let \(M_n(\mathbb D)\) be the ring of \(n\times n\) matrices over a division ring \(\mathbb D\) with center \(\mathcal Z\). The author characterizes additive maps \(f\colon M_n(\mathbb D)\to M_n(\mathbb D)\) such that \([f(x),x]=f(x)x-xf(x)\in\mathcal Z\) for all invertible (respectively, singular) \(x\in M_n(\mathbb D)\).
