This is another study of quantum field theory on curved spacetime using algebraic techniques. Of central importance here is the principle of local covariance as introduced and studied by Klaus Fredenhagen and his collaborators. Everything is now formulated using the language of category theory and so quantization is interpreted as a covariant functor from the category of globally hyperbolic spacetimes to the category of unital topological \(*\)-algebras. A general framework is formulated for the quantization of bosonic as well as fermionic fields on affine bundles on these spacetimes. As a consequence the equations of motion are affine but not linear. As a particular example of a Yang-Mills theory, the Maxwell field is now understood as a theory of connections on \(\mathrm U(1)\)-bundles. Another article will concentrate on this example. However, one should always keep in mind that so far all exactly constuctable models are formulated as \textit{linear} theories.
