    Let \(X\) be a set and \(\mathcal P(X) = \{A \subseteq X : |A| < \infty\}\). A diversity is a pair \((X, d)\), where \(X\) is a set and \(d\) is a real function on \(\mathcal P(X)\) satisfying \(d(A) \geq 0\) and \(d(A) = 0\) iff \(|A| \leq 1\), and if \(A, B, C \in \mathcal P(X)\) with \(C \neq \emptyset\), then \(d(A \bigcup B) \leq d(A \bigcup C) + d(C \bigcup B)\). Analytical properties such as generalizations of uniform continuity, uniform convergence, Cauchy sequences and completeness of diversities are studied. A diversity analogue of uniform spaces, called conformities, is introduced and it is shown that conformities can be defined either axiomatically or in terms of uniform continuous pseudodiversities.
