The author shows that the method of the proof of Theorem~2.1 of \textit{Z.-Z. Bai} et al. [SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 31, No. 2, 410--433 (2009; Zbl 1195.65033)] can be used to prove analogous results when either the hypothesis that the block matrix is symmetric, or the hypothesis that the leading block is positive definite (but not both), is relaxed slightly in that theorem, if the additional hypothesis that the Schur complement is nonsingular is added.
