Let \(k\) be a field, \(G\) a finite group and \(\widehat H^*(G;k)\) the graded Tate cohomology algebra of \(G\) with coefficients in \(k\). In [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 356, No. 9, 3621-3668 (2004; Zbl 1070.20060)], \textit{D. Benson} et al. defined an element \(\gamma_G\) in Hochschild cohomology of \(\widehat H^*(G;k)\), \(\gamma_G\in HH^{3,-1}\widehat H^*(G;k)\), such that \(\gamma_G=0\) implies that every \(\widehat H^*(G;k)\)-module is a direct summand of realizable modules (isomorphic to \(\widehat H^*(G;M)\) where \(M\) is a \(kG\)-module). The aim of this paper is to prove that the converse of the previous implication is not true by studying the case of the generalized quaternion groups.
