    Suppose \(G\) is a locally compact abelian group and \(M(G)\) is the measure algebra on \(G\). Let \(\phi : \mathbb R \longrightarrow G\) be a non-trivial continuous homomorphism and \(\psi : \hat G \longrightarrow \mathbb R\) be the dual homomorphism. For \(\mu \in M(G)\) let \(\hat \mu\) be the Fourier--Stieltjes transform of \(\mu\), that is, \(\hat \mu (\gamma )=\int_G(-x, \gamma )\, d\mu (x)\) for \(\gamma \in \hat G\). In [\textit{N. H. Asmar} et al., J. Funct. Anal. 165, No. 1, 1--23 (1999; Zbl 0956.43001)], Theorem 4.5, Asmar, Montgomery-Smith, and Saeki showed that if \(\mu \in M(G)\) is such that \(\psi^{-1}((-\infty , s])\cap \text{supp\,} \hat \mu \) is compact for every \(s\in \mathbb R\), then \(\mu\) is absolutely continuous with respect to the Haar measure \(m_G\). In the paper under review the author proves that if, in addition, \(G\) is \(\sigma\)-compact and connected, then \(m_G\) is also absolutely continuous with respect to \(\mu\) (Theorem 2.2). If \(\mu\) is of analytic type (with respect to \(\psi\)), that is, if \(\hat \mu\) vanishes on \(\psi^{-1}((-\infty , 0))\), the author obtains necessary and sufficient conditions for the quasi-invariance of \(\mu\) (Theorem 4.1) and for the mutual absolute continuity of \(\mu\) with \(m_G\) (Theorems 4.2, 4.3).
